silent memories
Encountering the high cliffs, cool sting of salt water, soft roll of sand underfoot and piercing fresh air in each breath was a step back to being a resident of the Peninsula for 17 years, and at the same time a step forward to viewing a known place from a new perspective. The opportunity to revisit the places that had been a part of daily life and allow the layers to melt away and reveal - what?
The work I have produced following our journey reflects both an interpretation of place and an emotive response to the layering of history. The range of methods employed in the resulting collection reflect the complexity of my engagement with the elapsed time and association with the physical environment. Silent memories distill to become found moments and sensations held within the softness of the body; the embrace of the past.
