Gabrielle Falconer

Over the last eighteen years I have had an ongoing relationship with the peninsula through my son's grandmother, Rosalyn McLennan, and her children and grandchildren.
Rosalyn has lived most of her life on the peninsula and has brought up 6 children there, as well as being involved in the community and recently the Pungenna aboriginal artists cooperative. Rosalyn has allowed me to interview her and this has formed the basis of the audio component of my work.
I have also sourced pictures from the family album as a basis for works that delve into the relationships between family members and their home on the peninsula. I have tried to create works that talk about human connections: a grandmother holding a grandchild even though he is probably outgrown this, a boy's first day of school, the family day out at the beach or the very mundane but important activity or non activity of just sitting around together.
While the natural environment of the peninsula can be rugged and the history is similarly brutal, the experiences I have had there have been of warmth and kindness.
